A 56-year-old female patient with cutaneous albinism had complaints of photophobia and decreased vision since birth. She had golden hair and a light skin complexion. Her best-corrected visual acuity was 20/120 OU. Ocular examination revealed alternating exotropia with horizontal nystagmus. Anterior-segment examination showed iris transillumination defects. On fundus examination in both eyes, choroidal vessels and posterior staphyloma were easily visualized (). In addition, macular vortex veins were noted in the macula of each eye. Genetic testing for albinism was not done. The patient was advised to use high-plus spectacles as optical near-vision aids and to consider dark-tinted glasses for photophobia.
