Course: Meeting Patients Where They Are: Supporting PrEP Adherence and Shared Decision-Making
CME Credits: 0.25
Released: 2025-06-30
Adherence to HIV prevention methods like pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) can be especially difficult in rural and underserved communities due to barriers such as distance from care, limited clinic availability, and HIV-related stigma. Additionally, evolving life circumstances may complicate ongoing PrEP management and engagement in care. This on-demand CME/CE activity—which is Part 3 of a three-part series titled Navigating Patient Conversations: Strategies to Ensure Equitable Access to HIV Prevention and PrEP in Rural and Underserved Communities—demonstrates best practices for supporting adherence and retention in care over time. Through a modeled patient-provider interaction, the video highlights how to approach conversations about adherence in a nonjudgmental way, explore flexible PrEP options, and tailor care based on lifestyle changes and individual preferences. Expert faculty will also reinforce practical strategies for maintaining continuity of care and relaying key prevention messages such as U=U to empower patients and foster trust in diverse clinical settings. The content for this enduring activity was recorded on May 5, 2025.
