Course: Tailoring PrEP: Practical Approaches to Improve Patient-Centered Selection and Access

CME Credits: 0.25

Released: 2025-06-30

Many individuals at risk for HIV may not be aware of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as an effective prevention method—or that they’re eligible. Clinicians play a key role in bridging this gap, but may not always feel confident navigating these sensitive conversations. This on-demand CME/CE activity—which is Part 2 of a three-part series titled Navigating Patient Conversations: Strategies to Ensure Equitable Access to HIV Prevention and PrEP in Rural and Underserved Communities—demonstrates how to integrate HIV prevention services into clinical care through a mock patient-provider interaction. The video models how to assess PrEP eligibility through a sexual health history; communicate key information about available PrEP options; address concerns about cost, adherence, and follow-up; and individualize care based on patient preferences and circumstances. Expert faculty will also reinforce how to apply these strategies in practice to enhance patient counseling, guide appropriate PrEP selection, and overcome common barriers to care. The content for this enduring activity was recorded on May 5, 2025.
