Course: It Starts With a Conversation: Opening the Door to Sexual Health, HIV Testing, and PrEP
CME Credits: 0.25
Released: 2025-06-30
Many clinicians feel discomfort or uncertainty when initiating conversations about sexual health, sexual history, and prevention tools such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). However, these discussions are essential to reducing HIV transmission and ensuring whole-person care. This on-demand CME/CE activity—which is Part 1 of a three-part series titled Navigating Patient Conversations: Strategies to Ensure Equitable Access to HIV Prevention and PrEP in Rural and Underserved Communities—demonstrates an encounter between a nonbinary patient and their provider to model practical strategies for creating a safe, affirming space for patients of all identities. Clinicians will gain insight into how to ask inclusive, nonjudgmental questions; normalize discussions around sexual behavior; and recommend prevention options like PrEP. Expert faculty will also highlight key takeaways and communication techniques that can be readily applied in everyday practice to improve patient trust, satisfaction, and health outcomes. The content for this enduring activity was recorded on May 5, 2025.
