Course: Retention and Re-engagement in HIV Care: Leveraging Clinical and Community-Based Strategies to Reach Patients in Rural and Underserved Areas

CME Credits: 0.50

Released: 2025-07-31

Ongoing HIV management is essential, as individuals who regularly attend medical appointments are more likely to achieve and sustain viral suppression, reducing the risk of transmission. In rural and underserved areas, people living with HIV often face barriers such as limited transportation, long travel distances, low socioeconomic status, homelessness, and stigma. As a result, retention in care and viral suppression rates are lower than in urban settings. In this on-demand CME/CE activity, a multidisciplinary panel—including an infectious disease expert, social worker, and peer educator—will explore these challenges and share clinical and community-based strategies to support patient re-engagement in HIV care and treatment. A companion video resource will also highlight the vital role community health workers can play in helping individuals navigate the healthcare system, overcome barriers, and stay connected to essential services. The content for this enduring activity was recorded during a live webinar on May 23, 2025.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
