Course: Opening Doors to HIV PrEP: Practical Strategies for Expanding Access in Rural and Underserved Communities
CME Credits: 0.50
Released: 2025-10-15
The Southeast region of the United States carries a disproportionate burden of HIV, with higher rates in suburban and rural areas compared with other regions. Rural and underserved communities also face additional barriers, including limited healthcare infrastructure, greater distances to care, and a shortage of infectious disease specialists. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), however, remains a highly effective strategy for preventing HIV transmission—highlighting the importance of clinicians in these settings being well-versed in its use and prepared to engage patients in conversations about sexual health. In this CME/CE activity, Part 1 of the two-part series entitled PrEP for HIV Prevention: Expanding Access in Rural and Underserved Communities, expert faculty will share the latest updates on PrEP, including new and existing formulations, evolving clinical evidence, and recent challenges in HIV care. Best practices for discussing sexual health, identifying patients eligible for PrEP, and expanding PrEP’s impact in rural and underserved settings will also be discussed. This activity is a recording from a two-part webinar series that took place in August 2025.
