Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory arthritis affecting about 1.3 million adults in the US.1 It usually presents as a symmetrical polyarthritis of the hands and feet, leading to destruction of cartilage and bone. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent or delay damage in up to 90% of patients. Poorly controlled RA can lead to irreversible joint destruction, reduced physical functioning and quality of life, and long-term disability.2 This guideline provides clinical guidance for clinicians caring for adults with RA (Table).3
