- Provide basic patient care, including assisting with activities of daily living and attending to patients' personal needs to ensure comfort and dignity
- Assist patients with eating and hydration by opening containers, cutting food, or feeding patients as directed by the registered nurse (RN)
- Measure and accurately record vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate, along with patient weight and intake/output documentation
- Ensure a positive patient experience by maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment; perform patient rounding according to established standards
- Communicate regularly and effectively with nursing staff regarding changes or observations in patient condition following unit protocols
- Perform clerical and administrative duties of the unit secretary when assigned, including answering phones, scheduling, and maintaining records
- Follow organizational and departmental ergonomic and safety principles to prevent injury and maintain a safe working environment during all activities
- Assist with patient mobility and positioning as needed to promote comfort and prevent complications such as pressure ulcers
- Support infection control procedures by following appropriate hygiene practices and ensuring equipment and patient areas are clean
- Document all patient care activities and observations accurately and timely in patient records as per unit guidelines
- Respond promptly and appropriately to patient requests and needs, escalating concerns to nursing staff or supervisors as necessary
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the unit's efficient and effective operation
- High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Completion of a Nurse's Aide program
- Previous hospital or health care experience.
License/Certification
Preferred:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Work Environment
- Work is performed in an office environment and patient care areas which require working in proximity to other employees and patients. Rooms are air conditioned and heated.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending and lifting.
- Fast paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Exposure to equipment cleaning solutions and disinfectants.
- PPE (Eyewear, Masks, Face shields, Shoe covers, and Gloves) as required by UHS Hospitals Infection Control policies.
