Research Article: Effect of CT-Guided Repeated Pulsed Radiofrequency on Controlling Acute/Subacute Zoster-Associated Pain: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Date Published: 2023-12-07

Abstract:
Zoster-associated pain (ZAP) treatment and management is still inadequate. Repeated intervention protocol is often applied to manage ZAP. This study aimed to retrospectively investigate the effect of repeated applications of pulsed radiofrequency therapy on controlling acute/subacute ZAP.

Introduction:
Zoster-associated pain (ZAP) is a painful condition caused by the reactivation of previously infected Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) latent in the ganglia, resulting in severe slashing, stabbing, and burning pain in the skin innervated by the responsible ganglia [1]. ZAP is the primary clinical manifestation of herpes zoster (HZ) and the main reason for patient visits. It reduces the patient’s quality of life and causes endless physical and mental suffering.
