Research Article: Combination of Conventional EVD and Ommaya Drainage for Intraventricular Hemorrhage (IVH)

Date Published: 2024-01-03

Abstract:
Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a critical event that leads to a high mortality rate and permanent disability in survivors. It is more common in older adults, as aging increases the risk of ICH and worsens its outcomes. In parallel with the aging population, the global incidence of ICH has risen to about . million, posing a threat to the health of the elderly and a heavy burden to society. Age is highly associated with the development and clinical outcomes of ICH, whose risk ratio doubles with every years of age. Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), a life-threatening complication of ICH that occurs when blood enters the ventricles, affects over % of ICH patients and leads to an even worse prognosis.
