Staphylococcus aureus is a part of the normal skin flora and commonly colonizes the nose, respiratory tract, and skin. S. aureus also causes a wide spectrum of infections ranging in severity from mild skin and soft tissue and osteomyelitis to severe life-threatening pneumonia and bacteremia.
