Abstract:
Life expectancy and the aging population are increasing worldwide. Aging in Latin American and Caribbean countries is occurring at an accelerated rate. In Mexico, population aging is an important challenge that the country is facing. In a short time, the population of older adults will increase more rapidly in relation to the other age groups. In , the population aged and over represented .% of the total population of Mexico, a proportion that increased to .% in and .% in , and will reach .% in the year .– As for access to health services, in Mexico, almost million older adults (%) are not affiliated with any health service institution. Age is a strong predictor for diverse oral diseases as well as for chronic diseases. Thus, poor oral health, aging, and multimorbidity together represent some of the greatest challenges for health systems because they are highly prevalent in older adults and costly.
