Research Article: The Correlation of Pain, Psychological Aspects, and Sleep in Fibromyalgia: A Cross-Sectional Analysis
Abstract:
Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a disabling chronic pain disorder associated with high levels of pain and suffering. Individuals often experience symptoms of widespread pain, mood changes, sleep disturbances, and fatigue. Co-morbidities such as IBS, headache, and sleep disorders are often coupled with and complicate FM treatment. Patients report experiencing functional limitations which can affect productivity and ultimately economic costs. The impact of FMS on health status can be assessed through tools that translate a patient’s qualitative experience into objective measures. Quality and severity of FM pain symptoms can be evaluated through self-assessments including the Short-Form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ), Somatosensory Amplification Scale (SSAS), and Illness Behavior Questionnaire (IBQ).–
