Research Article: Prevalence and Factors Associated with Alcohol Consumption Among Secondary School Students in Nekemte, Ethiopia: A Cross-Sectional Study
Abstract:
Alcohol is an addictive psychoactive substance that has been widely used in many cultures for centuries. However, alcohol use in adolescents is associated with negative consequences for cognitive development and brain function, including changes in verbal learning, visuospatial processing, memory, and attention, as well as impaired gray and white matter development and integrity. These neurocognitive changes from adolescent alcohol use may also lead to behavioral, emotional, social, and academic problems later in life.
