Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is an enveloped DNA (Deoxyribo nucleic acid) virus that infects the liver and causes cirrhosis, failure and cancer of the liver. HBV infection can be either acute or chronic and may range from asymptomatic infection or mild disease to severe hepatitis., A third of the world’s population is infected with HBV, according to studies, of which million people have a chronic infection and million people are still asymptomatic carriers., Over million people in Africa are infected with HBV, with .% of the population in Nigeria, % in Senegal, and .% in Ethiopia affected.
