Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide and the second most common cause of blindness. It is estimated that glaucoma affects more than million individuals worldwide and that % of glaucoma patients eventually become blind. Although visual field loss caused by glaucoma can start in middle age, a previous study reported that over % of patients with early-stage glaucoma discontinue topical therapy within the first months of treatment initiation, regardless of the class of medication used.
