Introduction:
Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (SMA) is a nonfermentative, gram-negative, conditionally pathogenic bacterium that is widespread in sewage, tap water, soil, animals, plants and human bodies. It can be isolated from tracheal cannulas, various catheters, sputum aspirators, artificial ventilators and hand sanitizers of medical staff in the hospital. Currently, S. maltophilia has emerged as an important pathogen of nosocomial infection.
