Research Article: Prevalence of Obesity and Lifestyle Risk Factors Following Two Years’ COVID- Related Service Closure at Wellness Center, Primary Health Care

Abstract:
The novel coronavirus (COVID-) was declared a pandemic and a public health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March . Public health authorities around the globe have undertaken stringent containment measures including lockdowns, quarantine, social distancing, travel restriction and schools’ closure., Prolonged lockdown, especially within the high-risk environments (ie, fitness facilities), has compromised the ability to maintain physical activity (PA) and healthy lifestyles. A % reduction in daily steps was observed only within days of the pandemic declaration in , individuals around countries. Reductions in all levels of PA and a third increase of daily sitting as well as unhealthy eating patterns were observed. Data from the Active Lives Adult Survey show that during the initial phase of the pandemic, between mid-November and mid-November , % of adults aged year and above were engaged in physical activity below minutes per week. The pandemic has also enhanced the risk factors associated with poor mental health, including social isolation, financial uncertainties, and health concerns, which led to increased stress, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders.,
