Research Article: Fibrinogen-to-Albumin Ratio in Neonatal Sepsis

Date Published: 2023-10-31

Abstract:
Sepsis is one of the leading causes of neonatal morbidity and global mortality and the recent WHO’s Resolution on sepsis suggests that addressing sepsis may also become a critical healthcare priority in the upcoming decade. Sepsis is a complex clinical syndrome consisting of a severe infection caused by pathogens. The current gold standard for the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis is blood culture. However, blood cultures have several obvious disadvantages, such as a long wait to get a test report and low positive rates (mainly due to small blood volumes, contaminated blood samples, or intrapartum antimicrobial administration).– The accurate and timely diagnosis of neonatal sepsis is valuable in early intervention and treatment, which can further improve the prognosis of neonates with sepsis. Circulating blood biomarkers that may be useful in the early diagnosis of neonatal sepsis have been processed.
