Introduction:
SLCA is a member of the solute carrier (SLC) family and encodes the uridine diphosphate galactose (UDP-Gal). The latter belongs to the nucleotide sugar transporter proteins, which contain transmembrane regions responsible for the transport of UDP-Gal from the cytoplasm to the Golgi lumen and then to the endoplasmic reticulum.
