In turn, pain is a major factor limiting prompt recovery, discharge from the hospital, and contributes to poor long-term outcomes. , The increasing number and frailty of patients undergoing these types of procedures , coupled with the ongoing opioid crisis occurring in the United States, has created an urgent need for improved analgesia and interventions which promote rapid recovery after complex spine surgery.
