Research Article: Visceral Leishmaniasis Associated with HIV Coinfection in Pará, Brazil
Introduction:
Human visceral leishmaniasis (VL) known as calazar , or kala-azar , (“black fever”), is a chronic zoonosis, of great importance for public health due to its epidemiological diversity, and in the absence of adequate treatment, results in fatal cases for humans. VL has high mortality, especially in untreated people and malnourished children, is also seen developing in individuals with acquired immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.
