Abstract:
Persistent idiopathic dentoalveolar pain (PDAP), classified by the International Classification of Orofacial Pain (ICOP) in , was previously referred to as atypical odontalgia. It is characterized by pain in or around a tooth socket or extraction site, even when there is no apparent clinical or radiographic evidence of dental issues or other relevant oral hard or soft tissue problems.– PDAP is surprisingly common and dentists often have trouble diagnosing and treating it. There are reports indicating that , teeth undergo unnecessary root canal treatment each year. PDAP was found in .% of a population of at the University of Southern California Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine Center.
