Introduction:
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a typical autoimmune disease characterized by impaired apoptotic clearance, innate and adaptive immune system activation, complement activation, immune complex formation, and tissue inflammation, which culminate in a self-sustained autoimmune process. Genetic, environmental, hormonal, and immunoregulatory factors are involved in its pathogenesis, while the exact molecular mechanisms have not been fully revealed.
