Abstract:
Millions of people undergo life-saving surgery worldwide each year to regain health. However, many surgical patients frequently develop postoperative delirium (POD), which is characterized by acute changes in attention and consciousness and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Preoperative cognitive impairment (CI) also be reported significantly increases the risk of POD. The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) are the most commonly used scales to detect CI and have been commonly used in preoperative settings. Preoperative MMSE or MoCA scores are negatively associated with high incidences and severity of POD.,
