Research Article: Challenges to Implementation of Community Health Worker-Led Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Screening and Referral in Rural Uganda: A Qualitative Study using the Implementation Outcomes Framework
Abstract:
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for an estimated million deaths annually. Among these NCDs, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a preventable condition characterized by progressive limitation of airflow, is the third leading cause of death globally. COPD is expected to be the leading cause of death in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) within the next decade, causing severe economic impacts in LMICs, with nearly % of COPD deaths occurring in these settings.– In Uganda, the reported prevalence of COPD is disproportionately higher in rural populations ranging from .% to .% compared to .% in urban populations.,
