Research Article: Quantitative Network Comparisons of REM Sleep Without Atonia Across the ?-Synucleinopathy Spectrum: A Systematic Review
Introduction:
Isolated rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) is characterized by REM sleep without atonia (RWA) and dream enactment behavior (DEB) without any neurological disorders. According to Braak staging for Parkinson’s disease (PD), REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is associated with ?-synuclein deposits in the medulla and pontine tegmentum before the involvement of the substantia nigra. Therefore, iRBD is known as a prodromal ?-synucleinopathy that can precede the motor symptoms of PD.
