Research Article: Surveillance and Outcomes of Pediatric Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Recipients During the Recent COVID- Outbreak in China

Date Published: 2023-12-07

Abstract:
The COVID- pandemic has presented significant challenges for healthcare system globally., Although children and adolescents generally exhibit milder symptoms and have a lower rate of severe disease and death from COVID- compared to adults,, those who have undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) are more susceptible to severe COVID- infection due to their impaired immune response and underlying comorbidities., While there is evidence that pediatric HSCT recipients have a better prognosis than adults, they remain at risk for severe complications caused by COVID- infection, including severe respiratory dysfunction, multi-organ failure, and potentially fatal outcomes., In addition to the direct impact of COVID- infection, the pandemic may also create obstacles for the ongoing care and treatment of these susceptible patients, potentially disrupting their regular care and follow-up.
