Research Article: Retrograde intramedullary nailing or locked plating for stabilisation of distal femoral fractures? A comparative study of 193 patients
Introduction:
Distal femoral fractures account for 3–6% of all femoral fractures [1, 2]. There is a bimodal distribution of fracture incidence: younger patients sustaining high-energy injuries and an older group, predominantly women with osteoporosis presenting after a fall from standing height. Lately, a third group is emerging who have sustained periprosthetic fractures around a Total Knee Replacement (TKR), with an incidence of 0.4% after primary TKR [3].
