The burden of diabetes is currently expanding at an alarming rate, with projected increases in incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years from to . According to estimates from the International Diabetes Federation Diabetes Atlas, it is estimated that the number of individuals with diabetes will reach million by , with more than % of diabetes cases comprising type diabetes mellitus (TDM). Notably, Asia accommodates more than % of diabetic individuals, and this prevalence is closely associated with aging, urbanization, and lifestyle changes.
