Research Article: Effect of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure on Incident Frailty in Elderly Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Study Based on Propensity Score Matching

Date Published: 2024-02-16

Abstract:
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) poses substantial health risks, particularly for the aging population. The condition leads to acute physiological disturbances such as intermittent hypoxia, sleep fragmentation, and variable heart rate, blood pressure, and intrathoracic pressure. Over time, these acute disturbances may evolve into chronic conditions, including hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, cognitive decline, impaired mood and quality of life, and even premature death.
