Spermatogenesis is strictly controlled. In the testis, the macrophages, Leydig cells, and Sertoli cells generate cytokines under normal condition. These cytokines control spermatogenesis by influencing cell interaction, producing reactive oxygen species (ROS), and activating Toll-like receptors (TLRs).
